Chateau Weekend

Château de Montigny-sur-Avre

We will be heading to the chateau in Normandy in the afternoon for dinner and a relaxing weekend together. The chateau is located next to a small village but the closest city with restaurants, shops and a train station is called Verneuil-sur-Avre and is about 5.5miles away.
Transportation options include shuttles at a set time (more info here), rental car from Paris, train (from Gare Vaugirard close to the Luxembourg Gardens) or Uber.

The grounds of Château de Montigny-sur-Avre offer a big park to walk around in, a river & pond, and a paddock with horses. Inside the castle there’s lots of room for lounging in front of a fireplace, playing board games and billiard. You will be assigned a room when arriving and we will serve breakfasts and a dinner buffet every evening.

1000 Rue François de Laval

Travel, hotel & transportation

Travel to and from Paris

The earlier you book your flights the better deal you can find - we generelly use either Google Flights or momondo.com when we book international flights. We recommend paying the extra fee for a refundable ticket in case of illness or any unforseen event like airport strikes in France (which happens surprisingly often).

There's a couple of airports around Paris to choose from:

Charles de Gaulle (CDG)

The main international airport, northeast of the city. It's about 45min to the city centre with taxi. There's also the RER trains, and buses such as the Roissybus, Les Cars coaches and Noctilien buses(for late night arrivals), aswell as shared shuttle vans by the taxi stations.

More info here »

Orly (ORY)

Second biggest airport, located south of the city. It's about 30min to the city centre with taxi. The RER trains runs from 6am-11pm every day, buses such as Orlybus, Jet Bus and Air France coach(not only for Air France customers), or the shared shuttle vans by the taxi stations.

More info here »

Beauvais (BVA)

Smaller airport further away, about 1h to the city center with taxi. There's buses to the Port Maillot metro station (takes about 1h15min), and from there another 15min to the city center. Or take a bus to the train station in Beauvais and catch the train to Gare de Nord.

More info here »

Rental cars

You can rent a car at the airports (though it is not recommended to drive in the city unless you absolutely have to), or if you'd only like a car for the weekend in Normandy we recommend renting a car in Paris on the day of departure for the weekend. Go to expedia.com (or your favorite car rental portal) to find more options. Here are some car rental places in the Latin Quarter and city center area:

» Enterprise, Montparnasse

» Sixt, Gare Du Nord

» Europcar, Pont Des Invalides

Chateau Transportation

We will have shuttles available to take those of you who won't be renting a car to the chateau in the afternoon. If you'd rather get there yourself, please let us know beforehand so we know how many to book the shuttles for. A rental car is preferable to give you maximum sightseeing flexibility over the weekend.

Train: You can also take the train from Gare Vaugirard to the station closest to the chateau, Verneuil-Sur-Avre. Tickets can be booked at rome2rio.com and thetrainline.com. From the train station Verneuil-Sur-Avre you'll need someone to pick you up to get you all the way to the chateau.

Hotels in Paris

We recommend booking a hotel in the Latin Quarter (5th arrondissement) or in the Luxembourg Gardens area as it will be close to the ceremony as well as the restaurant. There's plenty of hotels to chose from in these areas - look on trivago.com, hotels.com or expedia.com for more. Airbnb also offers apartments that can be shared. Here are a few handpicked hotels in the area:

» The Select Hotel

» Hotel Europe Saint Severin

» Hotel Henri IV

Costs

We will be covering the wedding lunch and dinner as well as the stay at the chateau in Normandy (Friday night to Monday morning), which will include dinner Saturday & Sunday and some lighter breakfasts during the weekend.

This means that the guests are responsible for their flights to and from Paris, possibly hotel stays (depending on when you'll be arriving and leaving) and any food you want and need other than what we're providing.

Please contact us with any questions you might have!

Registry

We appreciate you coming all the way to Paris for our wedding and do not see the need for gifts or contributions - if you would still like to give a little something we ask you to donate to one of our chosen charities, the gift will be made in our name and yours and we will be notified of your generosity.
